Where to Recycle

Batteries

Take all types of batteries to Roger Bush in Electronic Maintenance LRC 139 B or to Dr. Steve Herr in Engineering/Physics Dept. LRC 182.

Cardboard

Cardboard intended for recycling can be left beside any trash barrel in the LRC or GC. It will be picked up by the housekeeping department. For large volumes of cardboard, call ext. 6695 or 6986.

Cans and Plastic Bottles

ORU has joined with Greenopolis to collect aluminum cans and PET plastic containers. You may complete a card and earn Pepsi Dream Machinepoints for collecting these items, individually,  as a fund raiser or for your floor or organization. Points and more information are available at greenopolis.com/onstreet. Machines are located in the dorms, the AC and GC-3.

There are also containers available to collect plastic bottles and there are some containers next to Pop machines in the GC, the AC and the dorms. If you use these bins, be sure to remove and throw away all lids before depositing bottles.

Paper

GC-LRC Buildings:  National Waste: picks up paper from high use offices like the post office and copy center and from blue barrels in the hallways.

Dorms: Abitibi has a large green bin located in the middle of parking lot G (lower lot). Paper from boxes in the pit areas of the GC & paper from the dorms go to this bin.

Paper that needs to be shredded

Any students papers, records, and other papers of a proprietary nature may be taken to the secure bins managed by the company, “Shred It”. These are located in the Grad Center basement near the Ecology Lab (GC 1-07) adjacent to the large fresh water aquarium.

If you are coming from the Registrar’s Office, continue down the stairs to the basement, and you will see the bins as you turn left.

If you are coming from the tunnel (from Receiving) continue straight ahead past the Engineering/Physics office and the glass display cases. You will next see the aquarium and the bins.

If the bins are full, please do not put paper into these bins as papers will not be secure. They are serviced regularly and will emptied within a few days.

Toner cartridges

Except for Dell printer cartridges (which should be taken to the Receiving Dock) most printer cartridges can be recycled. Call Dr. Steve Herr in Engineering/Physics Department at 918.495.6920 for pickup or bring to LRC 182.

The M.E.T. (METROPOLITAN ENVIRONMENTAL TRUST)

The M.E.T. runs about a dozen recycling centers around Tulsa. The closest one to campus is between the Walmart Supercenter and Victory Christian Center on South Lewis Avenue. All M.E.T. recycling centers accept various types of paper, plastic, glass, batteries, used motor oil and antifreeze.

Separate paper into categories of newspaper and magazines. Phone books are only accepted during one month in the fall when new books are issued.

Glass bottles must be separated by color (clear, green and brown).

Separate plastic bottles by use: milk bottles, pop bottles, heavy plastic detergent bottles. These represent recycling codes #1 and #2 that are on the bottoms of bottles.
