| Steinway Piano signed by ORU Alum, the late Larry Dalton |
Students who wish to major in music at ORU are preparing for one of three degrees: Bachelor of Music Education; Bachelor of Music with either a major in Performance, Sacred Music, Composition or Composition Technology; Bachelor of Arts in music with emphasis in either Music Arts or Music Technology; or a Bachelor of Science in Music with a Worship Leadership concentration. We also offer minors in Worship Leadership, Music Technology and Music Arts. An application and audition are required for each of the Music Major programs as well as the Worship Leadership Minor. You can either audition live on your primary instrument of choice at any time during the school year, or you can send a dvd or cd recording of your audition by mail, except for worship auditions as stated below. The audition will help us evaluate your music aptitude and talent. Auditions are held several times throughout the school year, including at the beginning of each semester as well as Fall and Spring College Weekends.
Worship Arts major and Worship Leadership minor - Applications and live auditions are required for both the worship leadership major and the minor. Recorded auditions are not accepted.
Musical Theatre major - An application and audition is required for the musical theatre major. Auditions are held several times throughout the school year, including at the beginning of each semester and both fall and spring college weekends. You can either audition live or you can send a dvd or cd recording of your audition by mail. The audition will help us evaluate your music aptitude and talent.
Theory and Piano Placement exam requirement - In addition to the application and audition requirements, every student interested in any of the music major or minor programs, as well as the musical theatre major, must take theory and piano placement exams, which are offered at the beginning of each semester. The purpose of these exams are to place a student in the proper theory and piano class levels.
Participation in Ensemble Performance Groups - As well as music majors and minors, any student enrolled in the university can audition and participate in our various vocal and instrumental performance groups. No applications are necessary, but students must enroll in the ensemble group for one credit hour. You can either audition live at any time during the school year or submit a dvd or cd recording by mail. We also offer private lessons in voice, piano, organ, guitar and all band and orchestral instruments as well as beginning classes in voice, piano and guitar.
If you would like to receive more information or speak with someone, please contact us in the music office at 918.495.7500 or email us at music@oru.edu.
| The deadline to audition and be considered for a scholarship is the Spring College Weekend prior to the year you plan to attend ORU. The instructors and coordinators of the various performance groups evaluate auditions and recommend these scholarships based upon talent. |
