Searching for Articles

In order to locate articles on the subject of interest, search an index to periodicals (journals/magazine, newspapers, etc.) and/or full text database.

Each periodical index refers to articles published in a selected group of publications. Some databases are subject specific while others are multi-disciplinary. For example, Business Source Premier contains full text of 8,800 periodicals in all subject areas related to business and Academic Search Premier, a general database, contains full text of more than 4,600 periodicals in all subject areas. Depending upon your topic you will want to search multi-disciplinary and subject databases.

Accessing Articles

Once you have found an article, if full text is available, just click the appropriate link (HTML, PDF, or linked full text).

If an article is cited within the database being searched, yet the entire article (full-text) is not there:

  • perhaps the article is available online in another database
  • or, it may be obtained from the ORU Library periodicals collection of print, microfilm, and CD-ROM titles.

In EBSCOhost databases, use this link to check for availability in the ORU Library, or look for similar links in other databases.

If an article is not available in the ORU Library it may be requested through Interlibrary Loan. Check the Journals List first before requesting articles.

Searching for articles will be covered extensively in the "Research Basics" tutorial.
