Electronic Books
The ORU Library provides access to two major collections of eBooks: ebrary and netLibrary. You may go directly to these databases by clicking one of the links above, or scroll down this page for more information about ebrary and netLibrary. We also offer a list of free eBooks on the Web.
Ebrary is a collection of some 35,000 academic books from a wide variety of top scholarly and professional publishers. Concentrations are in the areas of Business & Economics, Computers & Technology, Humanities, the Social Sciences, and more. Students and faculty from the ORU Schools of Arts & Sciences, Nursing, Theology, Education, and Business, whether graduate or undergraduate, will find materials related to their field.

How to Access Ebrary: If you are off campus, click the off-campus access link on the ORU Library home page, and log in using your off-campus username and password before proceeding. See this guide if you don't know your username or password. Once you are logged in, or if you are using a computer on the ORU campus, all you have to do is click the Databases link on the left side of the Library home page and then click ebrary.

- How to Download the Ebrary Reader: Click the get ebrary Reader button and follow the directions. This usually does not take long and is a one-time process. It enables your computer to display the text of the ebrary books.

How to Search Ebrary: To search the full text of all the books in ebrary simultaneously, key in a word or phrase in the search box on the home page and click the search button. To do a more precise search such as for a particular author, title, subject, or publisher, click the advanced search button, key in one or more search words in the search form, and select the desired type of search.

How to Browse Ebrary Books: You may browse the titles by clicking the browse button and then clicking relevant headings.

How to Read an Ebrary Book: To begin reading a book, just click the title. Once you have opened a book, you can search it individually by clicking the InfoTools tab, selecting "Search Document," and keying in the desired search term. You can also proceed through the book by using the backward and forward buttons, going to a specific page number, or clicking on a heading in the Contents sidebar.
- How to Use Ebrary's Special Features: Once you have logged into your Ebrary account, you can use several research tools called InfoTools that enable you place a book onto your own electronic bookshelf, highlight, annotate, and bookmark. The bookmarks and annotations become available to you whenever you log into ebrary and click "View your Bookshelf."
- How to Search/Browse ebrary Books in iPac: The ebrary eBooks are searchable on iPac (the ORU online catalog). To browse a list of them, do an author search for "ebrary." To find an eBook on a particular subject such as business, for example, go the advanced search page and do a combination search for the title word "ebrary" and the subject word "business." Once you have found a title you want to read, double-click the title and then click the link provided. You will be taken to the book on the ebrary site where you may begin paging through the book.
NetLibrary is a collection of eBooks with more than 8,800 titles.

How to Set up a netLibrary Account: To register for your personal netLibrary account, go to www.netLibrary.com, click Create a free account, and follow the directions. You will need to choose your own username and password. If you are a distance learner, you may contact Distance Learner Services for assistance in setting up your account.

How to Search/Browse netLibrary Books in iPac: The netLibrary eBooks are searchable on iPac (the ORU online catalog). To browse a list of them, do an author search for "netLibrary." To find an eBook on a particular subject such as business, for example, go the advanced search page and do a combination search for the title word "netLibrary" and the subject word "business." Once you have found a title you want to read, double-click the title and then click the link provided. You will be taken to the book on the netLibrary site where you may begin paging through the book.

How to Search netLibrary Books from the netLibrary Web Site: netLibrary eBooks are also searchable via the netLibrary Web site, but if you are off campus, be sure to log in using your username and password. Once you have logged in, you may search by title, author, subject, keyword, full text, publisher, publication year, and ISBN. The full text search is particularly powerful, allowing you to search the full text of all 8,800+ eBooks available in the ORU netLibrary collection simultaneously and almost instantaneously. Once you find an eBook you want to view, you may browse it or check it out and read it online.

How to Use netLibrary's Special Features: When you are logged into your netLibrary account, you may save books to a My Favorites list for easy access in the future. Furthermore, a bookmark feature allows you to jump to bookmarked pages instantly from your Bookmarks list. You may also make notes about a book and save them so that they are available to you whenever you look at the book. Just click Notes to access them.

How to Access eBooks Requiring DjVu: Some netLibrary eBooks, particularly foreign language grammars and some math books, require a plug-in called DjVu in order to view them. You know when an eBook requires DjVu because when you try to open the book, a Web page with a DjVu download button appears. Once you have installed the DjVu plug-in, it is saved on your computer's hard drive, and the next time you try to access an eBook requiring DjVu, it automatically opens the book. You may opt to download DjVu now by clicking on this link and following the directions.

You will want to be sure to sign up for your free personal accounts with both netLibrary and ebrary so you can take advantage of their interactive features including highlighting, bookmarking, notetaking and more.
