Introduction

The Interlibrary Loan Service (ILL) of Oral Roberts University provides access to library materials in other research institutions throughout the United States that are not available at ORU in addition to lending materials to other libraries. (Distance learners who live more than one hour's drive from Tulsa may wish to see the Interlibrary Loan Services for Distance Learners on the ORU Library Web pages.)

Procedures for Borrowing

  1. Forms for interlibrary loans are now located online. If you have any questions contact: Thelma Burden @ (918) 495-7377. You may e-mail her at libloan@oru.edu
  2. Be sure the requested item is not owned by ORU. Ask the Reference librarian if you need help determining this.
  3. Fill in the request form completely. Electronic forms will be signed at time of pickup.
  4. Send the completed form to the Interlibrary Loan via e-mail. Arrangements can be made for pickup after hours when special circumstances exist.

Eligibility

All Oral Roberts University faculty, students, and employees are eligible to borrow materials through Interlibrary loan.

What may be borrowed?

In general most books and photocopies of journal articles can be obtained through Interlibrary loan. The following kinds of materials are not ordinarily obtainable from other libraries: complete issues of unbound periodicals, complete volumes of bound periodicals, reference books or rare books.

Charges, fines, and overdues

Students pay $2.00 per request; faculty pay $1.00. Payment is due when the item is picked up. Postage for return of books is paid in addition to the fee. Some lending libraries may assess additional fees.
The person borrowing the material is responsible for damaged or lost items. All library privileges will be revoked pending the return of overdue materials.

Copyright

Current copyright laws place restrictions on both personal as well as institutional photocopying of materials protected by copyright. The Interlibrary Loan office can provide additional information about copyright restrictions which may apply.

How long does it take?

Interlibrary loan can take from two days to two weeks. The average is one week. Therefore, it is recommended that requests be placed well ahead of the time the item is needed.

Notification

As soon as the requested item is available, patrons will be notified by telephone or e-mail. Items can be picked up at the ILL office, 407B, 4th floor LRC.

Loan periods and renewals

Photocopies need not be returned. The loan period for other materials is typically 3 - 4 weeks.
Most libraries do not allow borrowed materials to be renewed.

Note

Interlibrary Loan services are a courtesy extended by a lending library. In order to avoid poor public relations with other institutions, the Interlibrary Loan Department makes every effort to comply with all restrictions and due dates set by the lending library. Please do not ask to borrow the same item twice.
