Getting Started Using The Literary Encyclopedia
Accessing the Database
Go to the Library web page: http://www.oru.edu/university/library/
Click “Database List.”
Scroll to the G-L section for Literary Encyclopedia.
Click the link: http://www.litencyc.com/php/ftsearch.php
Setting Up an Account
Although ORU is a subscribing institution, you are required to set up a personal account in order to gain access to the full articles. As long as you use your ORU email address when making your account, there is no charge.
On the database webpage, click “Login” in the left column.
Click the link that says “First time? To create a new account, please click here.”
Click “Click here to create a new personal membership account:” http://www.litencyc.com/register.php.
Fill in the online membership registration. (Typically people use the same username and password for all these kinds of accounts so they won’t have trouble remembering them.)
Check the box that says, “I have read and agreed to the Terms and Conditions of the Agreement.”
Click the “Next” button.
Activating the Account
Go to your ORU email account, and click the verification link you have been sent.
Log in with the username and password that you established.
Go back to The Literary Encyclopedia web site and login.
Fill in the required personal information (the starred items).
Searching
Click one of the search options listed in the left column: People, Works, Topics & Events, or Search All, type in a search term, and click the search button.
