Librarian's TIP : Locate an "Essay" in the ATLA Religion Database

The ATLA Religion Database indexes more than 210,000 essays in addition to articles and book reviews. Essays are part of "multi-authored works" (i.e. books) and are not found in journals. If an essay citation appears in your result list, to locate the essay search the ORU Library catalog, or other library catalog, for the "book" title.

The sample search below shows the results from a query in the ATLAS Religion database for "Old Testament" and prayer. (Do you know why Old Testament is in quotation marks? read more) Go to search results. (opens a new window).

Result #1 Essay

An essay titled "The Eschatological Thinking of the Dead Sea Sect..." on pages 121-138 in the book (source) Jesus' Last Week Volume One.
To locate the essay: Search the ORU Library catalog for the book, Jesus' Last Week Volume One. If the book is not available at ORU, click and complete the "ORU Interlibrary Loan Form for this article" link.

Result #2 Book Review A book review of "Words to God, Word from God..." in Journal for the Study of the Old Testament.

To find the book: Search "book" title in the Library catalog.
Result #3 Journal Article

An article in the journal (source) Epworth Review, volume 32, issue 1.
To view the article: Click "Check for full text" to see if ORU has the journal, whether in print, microfilm or another database. Look for the date you need, which, in this record is January, 2005.
