Electronic Resources Descriptions

The ORU Library has electronic and CD-ROM access to magazines, newspapers, journal articles, reference resources, and books. These resources provide a mixture of full-text, indexes and abstracts of journals in addition to a wide selection of electronic books. Validated users can access the databases via the internet from any location by going to the ORU library homepage, and selecting Database List.  Off-campus users must log in before using databases.   CD-ROM products listed are available only in the ERC.   For database questions call 918.495.6887 or email libref@oru.edu.

Bartleby.com: Great Books Online - Provides full text of reference and literary works.

Biography Resource Center - A biographical online reference database that contains a multitude of subject areas. Also contains some full text articles.

BioMed Central - Contains full text to open access to peer-reviewed biomedical research journals.

Books in Print - Provides complete, publisher-verified information on 2.5 million bindings for books that are in print, forthcoming, or declared out-of-print or out-of-stock indefinitely since 1979, as well as more than 500,000 full text reviews.

Business Source Complete (BSC)) – Provides full text coverage in all disciplines of business, including marketing, management, MIS, POM, accounting, finance and economics. Additional non-journal content includes market research reports, industry reports, country reports, investment research reports, company profiles and SWOT analyses.

CINAHL Plus with Full Text –CINAHL Plus with Full Text is the world's most comprehensive source of full text for nursing & allied health journals, providing full text for more than 560 journals indexed in CINAHL and having more than 600,000 full-text articles dating back to 1937.

ClasePeriodica CLASE indexes documents published in Latin American journals specializing in the social sciences and humanities. PERIODICA covers journals specializing in science and technology.

CollegeSource - Complete cover-to-covercatalog coverage, with original page format of 2-year, 4-year, graduate, professional and internation schools.

Communication & Mass Media Complete - Provides full text to areas related to communication and mass media.

Communication Studies (Sage) - A full text collection of mass communication, media studies, and written communication.

CountryWatch - Provides socio-demographic, cultural, hisorical, economic, political, environmental and investment information, along with news, analysis, maps, data and statistics on all of the world's 192 countries and many non-sovereign nations.

Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) - A collection of free, full text, peer-reviewed scientific and scholarly journals covering all subjects and languages.

Dissertation & Theses @ Oral Roberts University - Provides access to the citations, abstracts, 24 page previews and the full text in PDF format, when available of dissertations and theses of ORU graduate students who have published through UMI Dissertation Publishing from 1997 forward. ORU DMIN only prior to 1996.

Dissertation Abstracts   (BY APPT. ONLY) - Covers dissertations on all academic topics at accredited institutions since 1861, selectively covers masters theses and dissertations including dissertations from Canada, Great Britain, and Europe.

ebrary - Offers over 26,000 full text academic book titles from a wide variety of top scholarly and professional publishers.

EBSCO Animals - Indexes and abstracts full text records describing the nature and habitat of familiar animals.

EBSCOhost Databases - EBSCO's online full text databases offer access to full text articles from peer-reviewed journals published by many of the world's most prestigious academic publishers.

ECO (Electronic Collections Online) - Indexes and abstracts scholarly journals from various disciplines.

Education (Sage)  - A full-text collection of methodology, higher education, secondary education, vocational, measurement & testing, educational psychology.

Education Research Complete   - Provides full-text for all educational topics from early childhood to higher education, and all educational specialities. Includes some books and education-related conference papers.

EJS E-Journals - Provides for search and access to full text articles in electronic versions of a limited group of journals which ORU subscribes to in print.

Encyclopædia Britannica - Contains over 73,000 articles with maps, photos, drawings and flags. Includes multimedia articles, biographies, geography, yearbooks in addition to over 130,000 Internet links.

Encyclopaedia Judaica, second edition - Contains more than 21,000 articles on Jewish life, culture, history, and religion from the time of Abraham to the contemporary State of Israel, from rabbinic commentaries to modern Yiddish literature. This second edition, has been dramatically expanded and updated by a global team of subject-matter experts.

ERIC  (FirstSearch or EBSCOhost) - The Educational Resource Information Center, contains digests along with references for additional information, citations and abstracts from educational and education-related journals, and all records from EDRS (ERIC Document Reproduction Service). Available online from EBSCOhost) in full text from January 1993 onward.

Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia - Provides over 25,000 encyclopedic entries searchable by subject or keywords within the entry and covering a variety of subject areas.

Google Scholar - Allows searching of scholarly literature across many disciplines; includes papers, these, books, abstracts, articles, and citations.

GPO  (U.S. Government Publications) - Consists of records published monthly by the U.S. Government Printing Office since July 1976. Includes references to congressional committee reports and hearings, debates, documents from executive departments.

GreenFILE  - Serves as an informative resource for anyone concerned about the issues facing our planet. It indexes scholarly and general interest titles, as well as government documents and provides full-text for selected titles and searchable cited references.

Health Sciences (Sage) - A full text collection of social studies of health, public policy, health services & administration, health education, and community/public health nursing.

Health Source: Consumer Edition - Provides consumer health information on many health topics including medical sciences, food sciences and nutrition, childcare, sports medicine and general health, with articles in full text.

Health Source: Nursing/Academic -  Provides abstracts, indexes and full text for scholary journals focusing on various medical disciplines.

Highwire Press -  Provides the largest repository of full text, high impact, peer-reviewed content from scholarly publishers.

Humanities International Complete - Comprehensive index and full text database covering journals, books and other important reference sources in the humanities.

Library Information Science & Technology Abstracts (LISTA) - The oldest continously produced database covering the field of information science, it Indexes periodicals, books, research reports, and proceedings.

Literary Encyclopedia - Global literary reference work that provides over 4000 authoritative profiles of authors, works and literary and historical topics.

Literary Index - Master index to every Gale literary series. Combines and cross-references over 138,000 authors and over 160,000 titles.

Literary Reference Center - A full-text database that combines information from major reference works, books ,and literary journals. Provides users with a broad spectrum of information on thousands of authors and their works across literary disciplines and timeframes.

MEDLINE  (FirstSearch or EBSCOhost) - Created by the National Library of Medicine, it abstracts current biomedical journals and provides authoritative medical information on medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, health care system, and pre-clinical sciences.

Middle Search Plus - Provides full text for popular magazines covering general topics appropriate for middle to junior high school students.

Military & Government - Provides indexes and abstracts in addition to full text for current news pertaining to all branches of the military and government.

MLA Directory of Periodicals - Provides detailed information that includes editorial contact information, frequency, circulation, subscription prices and submission guidelines of journals.

MLA International Bibliography - Provides a bibliography of journal articles, books and dissertations produced by the Modern Language Association.

Physical Sciences Journal Collection - Provides full text access to core, peer-reviewed articles published by Elsevier in Physical Sciences, including chemical engineering, chemistry, computer science, earth and planetary sciences, energy, engineering, materials science, mathematics, physics and astronomy.

Pre-CINAHL - Provides a CINAHL companion database of current awareness for new journal articles. A rotating file of limited bibliographic records are available only while they are being assigned additional indexing, once completed, they are moved to CINAHL.

Primary Search - Provides full text for more many popular magazines for elementary school research.

Proceedings - Covers every published congress, symposium, conference, exposition, workshop and meeting received by The British Library Document Supply Centre. It is a companion piece to PapersFirst.

Professional Development - Provides a highly specialized collection of full text journals, designed for professional educators.

Project Gutenberg - Provides full text of thousands of books.

ProQuest General Periodicals Ondisc - Covers general reference, business, and health areas of popular magazines, important journals, and key business publications. For most titles, coverage is from 1988-2001 for full page images, some backfiles from 1986-. CD-ROM only.

PsycARTICLES - Provides full text articles on current issues in psychology from journals published by the American Psychological Association and allied organizations.

Psychology (Sage)  - A full text collection of applied psychology, assessment, child development, clinical psychology, cognitive psychology, counseling psychology, and social psychology.

PsycINFO - Contains citations and summaries of journal articles, book chapters, books, dissertations and technical reports, all in the field of psychology

PubMed Central - Provides full text access to the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) free digital archive of biomedical and life sciences journal literature.
