HOUSING

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ASSIGNMENTS TO ORAL ROBERTS UNIVERSITY RESIDENCE HALLS

The purpose of the terms and conditions given below is to provide for basic operations of the University housing facilities and to give all residents a mutual understanding of operating policies. Oral Roberts University has the authority to interpret, revise, extend, or grant exceptions to these terms and conditions on the basis of need and merit of individual cases. Any request for exceptions and any extensions should be made in writing. All room assignments are made without regard to race, creed, or national origin.

A ($125) room reservation fee must accompany each application. A ($300) room reservation fee is required if a student requests a private room. Private assignments are based upon available space. The room reservation fee will be applied on account. The room reservation fee is nonrefundable after June 1 for the Fall Semester, or December 1 for the Spring Semester. (New students who have already submitted a room reservation fee with their application for admission need not submit an additional fee with t heir residence hall contract.) Financial aid may not be used to cover the room reservation fee.

  • Students residing in residence halls are required to participate in the meal plan from the date of assignment until the end of the academic year.
  • The Student Housing Contract is binding from the date of assignment until the end of the academic year except for reason of graduation. Any exception for release from this contract can only be considered with either verification of official withdrawal from the University or a waiver of the University Residency Policy obtained from the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs.
  • The University reserves the right to close halls during University vacation periods whenever necessary. At the time of such vacations, if the residence hall is closed, the student must be out of the residence hall by noon following the official closing of the University. The residence hall will be opened the morning before the opening of school after the holidays.
  • Only guests officially invited by the University are allowed to remain in the residence hall overnight. Nonresidential guests are subject to University housing policies and procedures. A guest room reservation slip must be completed and approved by University authorities in order for guests to stay overnight. This is obtained through the Admissions Office.
  • The policy on refunds provides (a) that any student withdrawing from ORU will receive a pro rata refund of room and board except for conditions that occur within (30) days from the last day of classes when no refunds are granted; (b) that a resident who is suspended or expelled by the University or removed from a residence hall for reasons of improper conduct or violation of policy for residence hall or University regulations is not entitled to any refund of room and board.
  • The University reserves the right (1) to cancel or change any room assignment in the interests of the resident group; study conditions; the enforcement of policies governing conduct and procedure, in the interests of health, sanitation, and safety and in cases of recognized emergency; (2) to enter any quarters for inspection, cleaning, repairs, or maintenance of order, or (3) to levy and collect charges for damage to room or equipment occasioned by the fault or neglect of the resident
  • Each resident will observe the following procedures which are intended to provide for prompt and accurate service and protection of property:
    • Check in personally with the Resident Advisor before occupying room.
    • Be a properly registered student in the University.
    • Occupy assigned space in person and not sublease assigned space to another person.
    • Transfer to another space in housing facilities only with the approval of the Housing Office.
    • Keep room, room equipment, and personal belongings in good order at all times and keep room equipment free from damage.
    • Check out and return room key to the appropriate office when vacating quarters or transferring to another room.
    • Return room key to appropriate office at end of spring semester and summer session if not reassigned for the succeeding period. Failure to return the room key or to officially check out of the room may result in an extra charge.
  • The University is not responsible for loss or damage to personal property of the resident. Personal property left by the student when the premises are vacated is subject to disposition by the University. The University is not responsible for injury to a resident resulting from the residents' use or occupancy of University housing.
  • In the interest of health, safety, protection of property, and conformity with the lifestyle of the University, the following are prohibited in University housing or housing areas at all times: keeping pets; possessing or using illegal drugs, alcoholic beverages, firearms, explosives (including firecrackers, incense, candles, or flammable liquids); roughhousing; obscene pictures; advertising; or construction or repair work by residents. No pictures or articles may be tacked or fastened in any way that is damaging to the walls, woodwork, furniture, or electric-light fixtures. The striking of fire by students is prohibited on campus except for use in University-approved programs. Neither cooking nor possession of cooking apparatus is permitted in rooms, and food should be stored in such a way as not to attract insects.
  • Any type of unauthorized public-address device is prohibited.
  • Residence in University housing is based upon the student’s continuance as a student in good standing at ORU. The University may require a resident to vacate the premises if this condition is not met. Any student suspended or expelled from the University will be required to vacate the premises immediately.
  • A student who officially withdraws from the University is expected to vacate the premises within 48 hours following withdrawal.
  • All residents must adhere to the ORU dress code and other rules and regulations outlined in the Student Handbook.
  • Any student using an unauthorized key to enter a room or trespassing will be subject to dismissal.
