Mr. Willard Elsing collected rocks for more than 80 years. His collection expanded
when he opened his own rock and mineral shop on Route 66 in Joplin, Missouri. Miners
in the Tri-State mining district would bring him rare finds, which added to the variety
of his collection.
In the early 1970s, Mr. Elsing contacted Evelyn Roberts during an ORU partners' seminar. Eventually, Mr. Elsing decided to donate part of his extensive collection to the university for the use of research and education. The collection was showcased at the University Village until January of 2001. From that time forward the Elsing Museum has been located on the campus of Oral Roberts University.
