Thanksgiving is just around the corner. Kerrick and I both enjoy our traditions and celebrations. This holiday season will be a bit more interesting for me. I am heading to my fiance's family get-together in Wagoner, Oklahoma. Every year the family gets together for lots of turkey, potatoes, dressing, and numerous side dishes and desserts. After dinner, some of the family heads down to the pond for skeet shooting. I've only tried this activity once. It's pretty fun. I'm excited to show up the boys. Kerrick has some different plans too this year.

This year I will be spending my Thanksgiving with my family in Atlanta. I lived half of my life in Michigan and the other in Georgia. Earlier this year, my Grandma requested that all the family gather in Atlanta this year (where my grandparents live) for Thanksgiving. My brother, girlfriend, and a couple of friends (Two friends are riding along with me until Birmingham, Alabama) are driving the 12 hours to Atlanta. We will leave Wednesday early in the morning and get to Atlanta in the evening and come back on Sunday. Every year our family celebrates with a variety of dishes from turkey, ham, fried chicken, salad, apple-raisin salad (My dad loves this stuff, but I sneak in and get some when he's not looking), several cakes and pies, sweet potato casseroles with marshmallows on top, macaroni and cheese, and vegetables (which I usually don't touch). Other traditions include Thanksgiving service at church, going to a movie, watching football, going to an outlet mall, and just having fun in each other's company. I'm looking forward to celebrating with my family in just a few days.
What are some of your traditions? Contact us on the blog and maybe we can post some of them. Have a great weekend!

Imagine. Kerrick Randy Cowell and Heather Abdul judging the talent of ORU. I guarantee it would be an experience no one would ever forget. Unfortunately, Heather and I were not the judges, but ORU DID have a talent show last night in the Zoppelt.
It was a busy weekend. Between working on assignments, projects, running errands, watching the latest Bond film, and seeing ORU's dance department's Motility (which was outstanding by the way) I kept myself busy all weekend.
ORU emphasizes spiritual, academic, and physical excellence. One of the ways they measure physical fitness is by having a once a semester field test. The field test is a 2 mile run that students have to complete in a certain amount of time. The options are usually running or walking. Heather and I are both Seniors who chose to take Aerobic Proficiency, which means the majority of our grade for the class is based on our field test performance. (Which also means we didn't have the option of walking.) Last night we got a chance to see if we were "proficient." We both ran (I did lap Heather a few times) and finished in good timing.
Last night also was the Season Opener for ORU Men's Basketball team. Our Golden Eagles defeated John Brown 82 to 58. The Men's Golden Eagles will be on the road for a little while but their next home game is December 8th.
By the Way, the Women's Volleyball Team will be playing in the Summit League Championships at the AC this weekend. Make sure you come and support them.

Basketball season is back at ORU. I went to the exhibition game on Saturday and watch the men's Golden Eagles beat Southwestern Oklahoma State University. There are a lot of new players on the team this year and they are working on their team chemistry. Although there are a lot of new faces, ORU basketball looks promising this year; I'm looking forward to cheering them on against UNC and in the NCAA tournament in the spring. The next game is tonight at 7:05 p.m. Come out and support your Golden Eagles to another victory!
See you at the game!

Hey Seniors! Today is the last day to apply for candidacy for graduation online. It's an easy process. All you have to do is go to vision.oru.edu, log in, go to forms, and fill out the short form for candidacy. We have 173 days to graduation! Heather and I are both excited. Heather is done in December but I finish in May, but we will both walk in May.
That's it for this morning, it's cold and rainy outside and now I'm heading to chemistry!
See you around campus,
Kerrick
College weekenders are arriving by the droves from all around the country. College weekend is a time where prospective students come and experience college life -- ORU style. The weekenders attend classes with host students while the university puts on special events for the weekenders. If you haven't attended a college weekend and want to experience the ORU life, you can call to schedule an Eagle Day or come to the Spring College Weekend.
I attended the ORU Election Watch Party in the Fishbowl the other night. It was exciting to watch history being made before my very eyes. What was even more exciting was to see different students of different political persuasions gathering together to unite in support and prayer for the new President-elect. Heather and I will post the footage from the watch party tomorrow.
I'm looking forward to meeting the College Weekenders on Campus!
