Cheerleading Commitment

The primary goals of this program are to lead the crowd in cheers, entertain the crowd during performances and enhance school spirit. Members are expected to have a flexible schedule good attitude, strong work ethic and the ability to adapt and excel in various situations. As representatives of ORU, team members are expected to be examples in leadership to their peers.

A member of the ORU Cheer Squad is part of a team that works very hard to achieve a high level of excellence. The time commitment is extensive. Practices begin prior to the beginning of the Fall Semester with camp and continue through the end of basketball season in March. A typical week of practice involves:

    1. Monday/Tuesday/Thursday evening practices
    2. Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday morning fitness training
    3. Wednesday afternoon tumbling practice

Cheerleaders also maintain their course loads and other commitments. Therefore, excellent time management skills are required for success.

The ORU Cheerleading Squad consists of up to 30 cheerleaders. Team members are required to return to Tulsa for camp one to two weeks before school begins. Attendance at all practices and games is mandatory. SomeUniversity scheduled breaks such as Fall Break, Christmas Break and Spring Break, may be altered due to practices, basketball games, tournament play and other scheduled commitments. Scholarships are available to team members enrolled in the University as full-time students.
