Communicating Through the Written Word
Do you have a talent for writing or a wish to express yourself and see your words in print? You can sharpen your skills by contributing to ORU's Student Publications, The Oracle, our student newspaper, and the Perihelion, the campus yearbook. Each publication is staffed and published by students under the direction of a student editor and faculty advisor.
The Oracle, an online publication, gives students journalistic experience as they provide articles such as campus event announcements, opinion pieces, sports recaps, reviews and spotlights on exceptional students, faculty, alumni and others. It is the kind of real world experience that can open doors to internships and perhaps even a career following graduation.
The Perihelion, which means the point closest to the sun, is the annual university yearbook. It is published as a pictorial and written record of campus activities and reserved automatically for all full-time residential students. Contributing to the yearbook as a designer, writer, photographer or editor gives students hands-on experience in publishing and a greater understanding of what it takes in personal organization, skill and commitment to deliver an exceptional finished product to the campus community.
