ORU to Host 2010 Mechanical Engineering
Student Professional Development Conference
TULSA, Okla. – The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) student chapter
from the Oral Roberts University Engineering Department will host the 2010 ASME
Student Professional Development Conference (SPDC) and the Early Career Technical
Conference (ECTC) on the ORU campus Friday, March 26 and Saturday, March 27.
The SPDC is an annual gathering of students from Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado,
Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, and Mexico. At this year's event, over 90
colleges and universities will be represented. The students attend the SPDC to compete in
a series of contests and competitions that are designed to expose the students to the
engineering profession by letting them experience some of the tasks performed by
engineers every day.
These contests help prepare the students for the workplace by enabling them to develop
their skills and abilities and providing them with real-world experience. It also provides an
opportunity to win prizes and the chance to compete against other regional winners at the
next ASME Congress.
The ECTC is a forum for Mechanical Engineering graduate students and early career
engineers (practicing engineers graduating 5 years ago or less) to develop their technical
credentials and to establish their professional identity. This program is designed to
enhance the ability of graduate students and early career engineers to compete in an ever
more demanding and changing global marketplace by providing and developing the skills
and the demonstrated technical performance that will make them stand out among their
peers.
