Former U.N. Assistant Secretary General to Speak at ORU

The ORU history, humanities, and government department will be hosting Gillian Martin Sorensen, senior adviser and national advocate at the United Nations Foundation in New York as she gives a special presentation Feb. 16. Sorensen is an expert on matters related to the United Nations and the United States/United Nations relationship. Before going to the United Nations Foundation, Ms. Sorensen served at the U.N. as assistant secretary-general for external relations on appointment by Secretary-General Kofi Annan. Prior to that, she served as special adviser for public policy on appointment by Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali. Her lecture will focus on the relationship between the United Nations and the United States and is titled "Facing the Crises of Our Times: the U.S. and the U.N. in the 21st Century." The lecture will be held at 5 p.m. in Zoppelt Auditorium.
