Students Hone Journalistic Skills at Austin Convention

A group from ORU Student Publications recently attended the College Media Advisers and the National Scholastic Press Association/Associated Collegiate Press 2009 National College Media Convention held in Austin, Tex. This four-day convention featuring peer interaction, tours, and cybercasts engaged students and allowed them to hone their journalistic skills. Campus newspapers across the nation came to compete and learn how to be better editors, managers, or staffers of their student-led newspaper. Leaders from prominent organizations and instructors from universities came to give feedback and constructive criticism to attendees. Students could pick and choose from over 400 sessions to attend according to their interests. Some of the sessions they had to choose from dealt with how to improve editorial writing skills, newspaper advertising, interviewing properly and how to get a job after college.
