Developing Whole Leaders for the whole World

ORU Makes Two Key Strategic Announcements

ORU President William M. Wilson appoints Sergio Matviuk, Ph.D. as Interim Dean of Student Success

Tulsa, OK - Sergio Matviuk, Ph.D., Dean of Online and Lifelong Learning, has been appointed to serve as Interim Dean of Student Success by ORU President William M. Wilson. Dr. Matviuk will fulfill the responsibilities of both positions until further notice.

“The office of Student Success is key in ORU accomplishing the goals of our 5 Year Adaptive Plan and in serving our amazing students more effectively,” Wilson said. “Dr. Matviuk’s educational experience, international exposure and expertise in student services will serve him well in this role. I appreciate him accepting this added responsibility.”

Matviuk is a career educator and came to ORU from Regent University, where he served as executive director of global affairs. He has 20 years of leadership experience in education and nonprofits. He has led educational programs in 14 countries allowing him to gain extensive international and cross-cultural experience. Matviuk earned his doctorate in organizational leadership at Regent University.

“The key to our mission is having success in building our students to be Spirit-Empowered leaders,” said Matviuk. “I am excited to engage with the student body and to see them succeed in every sphere of life; spirit, mind and body.”

ORU’s Online Success Coach initiative will be transferred from Enrollment Management to the office of Student Success as part of the transition.

Matthew Olsen, Ed.D. named as Title IX Coordinator

Oral Roberts University has named Matthew Olsen, Ed.D. as the new Title IX Coordinator. This critical role will help ensure that students, faculty and staff are aware of their legal rights and responsibilities under the law, and that the school and all of its employees, through its policies, procedures, and practices, complies with its legal obligations under Title IX.

Olsen will begin his tenure effective September 19, 2016 and will report directly to the University’s Chief Financial Officer, Neal Stenzel,

“The Title IX position helps assure that ORU continues its strong record of care for our students, faculty, and staff. It is essential that we continue to prohibit sexual and other forms of discrimination in our educational programs and other university activities. This remains a high priority for us,” said Stenzel. “Dr. Olsen’s experience in leadership, training and development, and handling numerous sensitive student matters while serving as Dean of Men will assist him significantly in this new role. I appreciate his willingness to serve in this increasingly critical area in contemporary higher education.”

Having graduated with his undergrad in social work, a Master’s in Education and Ed.D from ORU, this role will be his sole function thus avoiding the suggestion of any conflict of interest.

“As ORU begins its next 50 years, I am honored to be handed this important sector of work,” said Olsen. “Here at our institution, we believe in whole person education. As such, we must be diligent to ensure that our students, faculty and staff pursue their education in an appropriate environment.”

Olsen will assist Matviuk, in transitioning the Dean’s office in Student Success until he assumes his new responsibilities.
