Tulsa, OK - Oral Roberts University public relations and advertising students will
compete in the 2019 National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) sponsored by the
American Advertising Federation (AAF). The first-round regional competition will be
held in Shreveport, Louisiana April 3-4, 2019.
Senior students work in agency departments—account management, research, media planning,
creative services, public relations and sales promotions—to develop a 26-page marketing
campaign plan and 20-minute presentation in response to the client case study. AAF
recently announced Wienerschnitzel as its 2019 client sponsor. Wienerschnitzel has
asked students to create a campaign to shift perceptions about hot dogs to grow demand
for the category nationally.
“This year’s case is tough considering hot dogs have owned the ‘classic American food’
space for decades,” said Cristi Eschler-Freudenrich, ORU assistant professor and NSAC
faculty team advisor. “Our team has really invested in learning about the client and
the category. Now we’re in the middle of developing the creative elements of the campaign,
those promotions and commercials that bring the research to life. Students really
enjoy this part of it, and love to ‘come to work.’”
ORU’s team won first-place in the District 10 competition held in Corpus Christi,
Texas last April. The team advanced to the semi-final round with 19 other schools
across the U.S., and then was selected to the AAF’s “elite eight,” competing at the
National Finals in June in Chicago. The ORU team finished seventh nationally from
among 150 colleges and universities with its campaign for Ocean Spray cooperative
grower-owners, “Life’s Better When You Cran.”
This will be ORU’s sixth year to compete along with 16 to 18 colleges and universities
from Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. District winners advance to the semi-finals
round with eight finalists chosen to compete for the National title. The 2019 National
Finals will be held in Hollywood, Florida in June.
