ORU Remembers Bob Canada

The following is a statement from ORU President Dr. William M. Wilson:

bob canadaOral Roberts University is saddened to announce that former coach Bob Canada passed away on Sunday night, March 17, 2019. He was 77 years old.

After spending 29 years teaching and coaching at the University, Canada was recently lauded by the University when it named its new Health, Leisure and Sports Sciences (HLSS) conference room in his honor on February 27, 2019.

Coach Canada was ORU Men’s Golf coach from 1991 to 2006; he was awarded Mid-Continent Conference Coach from 1998-2001, and again in 2003. During those same years, Canada’s teams were also Mid-Continent Conference Champions. Canada leads the Mid-Continent Conference and Summit League with the most men’s golf coaching championships with five.

Canada also contributed to ORU in academics by directing summer school programs from 1991-1992 and serving as the Director of Continuing Education. He served as an assistant HLSS Professor as well as the head of the Recreation Administration Degree Program. Canada was an Associate Athletic Director from 1993-1994.

Canada is survived by his wife Helen and son Mike. There will be a visitation with family and friends Thursday night, March 21, 2019 in the Bob Canada Conference room in the Aerobic Center from 6-8:00 pm. Funeral services will be Friday, March 22, 2019 at 10:00 am at Southern Hills Baptist Church.
