Leading Once More

When I showed up to start my freshman year at ORU, it was truly a miracle. I had been
a very average high school student with no plans for college and extremely limited
financial resources. All of that changed when God opened the door for me to leave
my small town in north Georgia and start a new adventure in Tulsa.
ORU opened up the world to me and changed the course of my life. Before I came to ORU, I had never held a leadership position, nor did I even view myself as a leader. Unexpectedly, I was given the opportunity to serve as a Resident Advisor. Although I was nervous and wondered if I had what it took, ORU created a culture where I was able to discover my God-given gifts, develop leadership skills, and learn how to rely on the power of the Holy Spirit to help me accomplish His purpose for my life.
Since graduating, I have held numerous leadership positions in both corporate and non-profit settings. And in every single role, I have continued to rely on the lessons I learned at ORU to guide me as I lead and serve others.
It is now one of the greatest joys of my life to again serve in a leadership role at ORU on the Board of Trustees. The University marked me as a young person and set me on the path to fulfill my calling as a leader. I am excited to see this next generation of leaders who are now on campus, and I believe eternity will show us the impact ORU graduates will have throughout the world.
We are living in complex times and our world needs godly leaders to influence every sector of society. Psalm 78:72 says that King David “…shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skillful hands he led them.” You and I can follow David’s example and lead well because we have the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit and the benefit of leadership skills gained at this great institution. As part of the strong ORU community, let’s leave a legacy of healthy, Spirit-empowered leadership to the next generation of young leaders!
In addition to being Vice-Chair of the ORU Board of Trustees, Holly Moore is the Vice President of Growing Leaders, a non-profit organization providing leadership training for the next generation. The Growing Leaders team serves over 7000 schools, universities, K-12 schools, non-profit organizations, and businesses around the US as well as internationally. Previously, she enjoyed a career in the healthcare industry founded on her nursing degree from Oral Roberts University.
