Tulsa, OK – Oral Roberts University welcomes Ted London, author of The Base of the Pyramid Promise: Building Businesses with Impact and Scale, to campus Wednesday, January 31, 2018. London will provide a roadmap for empowering leaders to build businesses that have a positive impact and help alleviate poverty around the world.

“Helping the poor is an important Biblical mandate and a focus for many students who travel with ORU mission teams and those in the University’s College of Business,” said ORU President Dr. William M. Wilson. “Mr. London’s lecture will offer a unique approach to helping the world’s poorest citizens.”

London, a professor at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business and Senior Research Fellow at the William Davidson Institute, is an internationally recognized scholar for his work at the intersection of business strategy and poverty alleviation. He has traveled the globe to present his concepts and to advise business leaders in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

“After working as a consultant, I decided the work was interesting but didn’t think it was that meaningful. I wanted to make an impact,” said London. That’s when he started looking for ways business can be an even more effective tool. “We can’t just stop at inspiring people and telling them how important it is to do this, we have to empower them and provide them tools, frameworks, strategies, and processes to do this better.”

The 4.5 billion poorest people on the planet, often referred to as “the base of the pyramid,” lack affordable access to goods and services that could dramatically improve the quality of their lives. London will talk about the opportunities and challenges in building successful businesses that provide this access, and have a beneficial impact on the world’s poorest citizens.
