Oral Roberts University to Utilize Supercomputer Through Research Partnership

Oral Roberts University (ORU) faculty and students will be conducting crucial research with the Tandy Supercomputing Center (TSC) through their membership in Tulsa Research Partners, a collaborative, multi-disciplinary research partnership for institutions of higher learning in the City of Tulsa. Research is planned in computational plasma physics, protein function, cheminformatics, weather and energy usage modeling, and artificial intelligence in the context of machine learning.

The Tandy Community Supercomputer is thousands of times more powerful than a personal computer which allows research that would normally take months to perform to finish in just a few hours. It is one of only a few supercomputers in the world that allows access to an entire community.

“Use of the Tandy Supercomputing Center will accelerate the research and data analysis capabilities of our faculty and students,” said ORU Provost Kathaleen Reid-Martinez. “We are excited for this wonderful opportunity and look forward to exploring many of the complex issues facing our society.”

The TSC provides supercomputing access, expertise, and education to students, faculty and staff for all academic members including Oklahoma State University – Tulsa, Oral Roberts University, The University of Tulsa, The University of Oklahoma – Tulsa and Tulsa Community College. They not only collaborate directly with researchers to advance their research, but also promote educational opportunities wherever possible.

"Ongoing and instant access to supercomputing power for ORU faculty and students, advances teaching and learning to an active realm of discovery and research that puts us on par with the Harvards of the academic world," said ORU Professor and Chair of Computing and Mathematics Andrew Lang.

Tulsa Research Partners is an initiative of the Oklahoma Innovation Institute. The program identifies opportunities for collaborative research and development, funding, grant writing and the transition of scientific research and technologies into commercially viable products and solutions. Initiatives include the Tandy Supercomputing Center, the Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance, The Best Thinking Forum and includes events like Citywide Tulsa Research Day.
