Road Trip to ORU College Weekend Creates Fast Friends

Oral Roberts University (ORU) will host hundreds of prospective students from around the globe November 5-7, 2015 for College Weekend. Among the crowds of excited high school students Michelle Benavides, Marco Salazar, Michael De La Garza and Jaime Hernandez will be enjoying their visit to ORU.

These four students had never met until a mutual desire to attend ORU’s College Weekend brought them together. The four were connected through an admissions counselor and traveled for more than 22 hours from their homes in Southern Texas to Tulsa.

“We have a lot in common,” said Benavides. “It was great to experience this journey to ORU together. I think it is something we will remember for the rest of our lives.”

The four students are having a wonderful time during college weekend.

“ORU’s campus is beautiful,” said Benavides. “There are no words to describe how truly excited I am about being here. This campus is an amazing place and I can’t wait to come back next fall as a student!”

Students attending college weekend will have the opportunity to experience campus life, meet faculty and current students, attend classes and experience an ORU chapel service. Unmarried attendees between the ages of 15 and 24 may stay in the residence halls.

The ORU Theater Department will also present the comedic play “You Can’t Take it With You” to prospective students and parents.

The cost for a student to attend College Weekend is $50, which includes the student’s stay in a residence hall, all meals during the weekend and an ORU t-shirt. Parents and sponsors cost $15 for an individual or $25 for two.
