ORU Students Fight Hunger on Halloween

Oral Roberts University (ORU) students are fighting hunger in Tulsa this Halloween. The University hopes it can make October, which is known for haunted houses and scary images, a month of hope and help. Instead of traditional “trick or treating” ORU student will go door-to-door collecting canned goods for those in need.

“ORU students have been participating in fall outreach for more than 20 years,” said ORU Director of Missions and Outreach Bobby Parks. “It is a wonderful way for our students, faculty and staff to give back and communicate the love of Christ to the Tulsa community.”

All non-perishable food items will be donated to John 3:16 Mission and will be used to help serve more than 3,000 families during Thanksgiving. Students will also be collecting hats, gloves, scarves, coats, warm socks and blankets to help keep the homeless in Tulsa warm.

ORU will also be partnering with T.D. Williamson to provide turkeys for Thanksgiving. The company will match one turkey for every 100 pounds of food that is collected by ORU students during fall outreach.

“Fall outreach is something I look forward to every year,” said ORU Junior Dominique Johnson. “One of the things I love most about ORU, is that they encourage students to go into every person’s world. It feels great to give back to the community and know that, because of our efforts, families will be able to have a happier Thanksgiving and a merrier Christmas.”

The ORU Missions and Outreach Department encourages students to reach out and bring the gospel to hurting people in the Tulsa area. Outreaches range from feeding the homeless, to mentoring children or constructing homes. For more information about the ORU Missions and Outreach department, visit www.orumissions.com.
