ORU Professor Chosen for Prestigious Qatar Malone Fellowship Program

QatarOral Roberts University Assistant Professor of Government Sonny Branham was one of five professors in the United States chosen for the prestigious Qatar Malone Fellowship program, which is offered by the National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations (NCUSAR). As a recipient of the Qatar Malone Fellowship program, Branham traveled to Doha, Qatar with a scholarly delegation.

“I was honored to be among the elite group of professors selected by the Malone Fellowship Program,” said Branham. “This unique opportunity provided an immersive experience in Qatar’s culture, society, and economics, as well as government priorities, concerns and needs as they pertain to Qatari-U.S. relations and Qatar’s role in regional and world affairs.”

The scholarly delegation also included 10 students from around the United States. All delegates have participated in NCUSAR's Model Arab League, either as student delegates or faculty advisers. The Model Arab League is a debate and leadership program that allows students to hone their skills in public speaking and diplomacy while placing them in a position to role-play as diplomats tackling key issues from a new perspective.

Branham serves as the faculty adviser for ORU’s Model Arab League. He is currently in his 15th year at ORU, and brings with him more than 25 years of industry and life experience. He also serves as a director the United Nations Association of Eastern Oklahoma, a member of the Tulsa Global Alliance and a private political consultant.  Additionally, Branham serves on the board of a number of advocacy groups and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
