Oral Roberts University to Host Fall Homecoming

HomecomingOral Roberts University will be hosting alumni from around the world for Homecoming, which will be held Nov. 13-15. The Homecoming celebration is taking place as the university welcomes the 50th freshman class.

In addition to open houses and receptions organized by academic departments and affinity groups, these events are also taking place during the weekend all over campus:

Thursday, Nov. 13:

TulsaTalks Digital Strategies Conference. Hosted by ORU media alumni, TulsaTalks is designed to help individuals navigate their brand, company, nonprofit, or ministry through an ever-changing media landscape. Professional presenters and "talk back" sessions will feature topics on brand management, social media, SEO, organic search, link building, paid media (SEM, Google Ad Spend), digital advertising, content marketing, earned media/publicity, digital guerrilla marketing and more.

Senior Scholarship Fundraising Dinner (6 p.m.). The keynote speaker will be Hans Helmerich. This event is organized and hosted by the ORU Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Coffee Hangout at the Hammer Center (8 p.m.). This isan opportunity for alumni to spend unstructured time with friends, students, and former faculty members.

Friday, Nov. 14 :

Third annual Innovate@50 Expo Event (formerly Alumni Business Showcase; times vary). More than 20 alumni businesses and ministries are expected to take part.

Homecoming Chapel (11 a.m.). ORU President Dr. William M. Wilson will be speaking. Special seating will be reserved for alumni. 

College of Business Power Lunch (12:15 p.m.). Alumni will catch up with fellow grads and meet the new dean of the College of Business, Dr. Julie Huntley, a 1996 MBA grad.

Accounting Alumni Dinner (5:30 p.m.). This new event is for all alumni who majored in accounting at ORU or just took accounting classes. Two longtime assistant professors of accounting, Ray Gregg and Terry Unruh, will be among the honored guests.

40-year+ Pioneers Reception & Dinner (4:30 p.m.). The ORU “Pioneers” group includes all alumni, faculty, staff and administrators who were at ORU anytime during the 1965-74 timeframe.

Decades Reception (6 p.m.). This desserts-only reception is for all alumni.

Athletic Department Alumni Reception (6:30 p.m.). All former athletes and coaches are invited.

Homecoming Worship Service (8 p.m.). Former ORU campus chaplain Dr. Robert "Brother Bob" Stamps will preach and will be joined by worship leaders from ORU’s distant and recent past: alumni David Stearman and Ross and Aimee Parsley. Members of ORU’s 1965 freshman class will be honored. After the service, a reception will be held in the chapel lobby.

Saturday, Nov. 15

ORU Presidential Update with Dr. William M. Wilson & the President's Cabinet (9:30 a.m.). President Wilson will give an update on recent campus events, improvements, initiatives and globalization efforts. A question and answer session will follow.

Women’s Luncheon (12 p.m.). Ellen Stamps, wife of former campus chaplain Dr. Robert Stamps, will be speaking. Susan Miller Smith '73 will be the featured soloist.

Alumni Homecoming Banquet (4:30 p.m.). A new Alumnus of the Year award, for Distinguished Service “In Every Person’s World,” will be presented to Amick Byram, a 1977 graduate. ORU Trustees Board Chair, Rev. Rob Hoskins, will bring greetings. The keynote address will be delivered by President Wilson. Special music will be provided by Byram and Susan Miller Smith '73.

Homecoming concludes with the annual PSO Mayor’s Cup contest, as ORU’s Golden Eagles take on the University of Tulsa Golden Hurricane. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. Alumni will have one last opportunity to mingle with friends and faculty at the Post-Game Reception.
