ORU Worldview Committee Hosts Media Guru Phil Cooke

Phil CookeThe Oral Roberts University Christian Worldview Committee welcomed media guru Phil Cooke earlier this month. Cooke spoke on "The Gospel, Pop Culture, and The Digital Future: Sharing Our Faith with the Most Distracted Generation in History."

Through movie clips and television commercials, Cooke shared a visually rich presentation addressing how to influence a generation that is continually distracted by media. CNN journalist Paula Zahn described Cooke as rare—“a working producer in Hollywood with a Ph.D. in Theology.”

Cooke, a 1976 ORU graduate, is an internationally known writer and speaker who has produced media programming in nearly 50 countries around the world. Through his company Cooke Pictures in Burbank, Calif., he has helped some of the largest nonprofit organizations and leaders use media to tell their story effectively in a changing, disrupted culture.

Cooke has appeared on NBC, MSNBC, CNBC, CNN, Fox News, and his work has been profiled in the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and the Wall Street Journal. His book “Jolt!: Get the Jump on a World That’s Constantly Changing” shares his secrets of making today’s culture of disruption and change work for you. His other books include “One Big Thing: Discovering What You Were Born to Do,” which was named one of the top five business books for 2012 by the Washington Post, and “Unique: Telling Your Story in the Age of Brands and Social Media.”

Cooke has lectured at universities including Yale, UC Berkeley and UCLA. In addition to his personal blog at philcooke.com, he blogs for the Huffington Post and is a contributor to Fast Company, Forbes.com and FoxNews.com.

Cooke has also produced marketing and promotional materials for major motion picture studios in their national advertising campaigns. He is the co-founder of TWC Films, which produced two 2008 Super Bowl commercials.
