ORU Students to Participate in National Student Advertising Competition

Oral Roberts University students will be competing in the 2014 National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) sponsored by the American Advertising Federation (AAF). The 10 person team, made up entirely of senior media majors, includes the following: Jeff Barker, John Bradford, James Craig, Rondah Frierson, Michael Garcia, Alec Hill, Jordan Mueller, Angela Nunez, Jason Proffitt and Vonshea Wise.

The District 10 National Student Advertising Competition will take place during April 2014 in Austin, Texas. This will be ORU’s first appearance at the event, where they will compete against some of the regions largest universities. District winners advance to the ADMERICA! national conference in Boca Raton, Florida.

In preparation, the ORU NSAC team will conduct research, develop a 26-page marketing campaign, and create a 20-minute presentation in response to the client case study. AAF recently announced Mary Kay Inc. as its 2014 client sponsor. Mary Kay sells 200-plus products in more than 35 countries around the world. The company plans to expand its footprint with the 18- to 25-year-old female market. This market is an often an elusive audience with fragmented media habits. The ORU NSAC team is currently conducting research through traditional methods and using online research tools including Simmons and Hitwise platforms. The research will then be used to make strategy, messaging and media recommendations to the client.

"Our students attended the 2013 District ten competition held in Tulsa last spring and watched other schools compete. Once they saw what other advertising students were doing, they were determined to make a name for ORU in that space," said Cristi Eschler-Freudenrich, ORU NSAC team faculty advisor. "These students are ready and eager to apply what they learn in the media major here at ORU. The campaign plans book and judged presentation allows them to demonstrate what they know."
