ORU Armand Hammer Alumni-Student Center Receives Citation Award

Hammer Center AwardThe Armand Hammer Alumni-Student Center on the campus of Oral Roberts University was recently honored with a Citation Award in Commercial Architecture from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Central State Region. The award was presented at AIA Oklahoma’s Central States Region event at the historic Skirvin Hotel in Oklahoma City.

“KSQ Architects provided ORU thoughtful planning and precise execution as we worked to make the Armand Hammer Alumni-Student Center a reality,” said ORU Chief Operation Officer and Executive Vice President Tim Philley. “The building is a highlight on ORU’s campus for students and guests. We are thankful for KSQ’s excellent work and congratulate them on a job well done.”

The Armand Hammer Alumni-Student Center represents a vision for the future of Oral Roberts University. As the first new construction project on campus in 30 years, the modern structure represents a new era of growth and a critical component in making ORU a competitive force for years to come.

The exterior is comprised of a creamy ceramic tile and blue reflective glass, a striking, modern combination that underscores a fresh new image for the University. On two sides is a perforated metal screen wall that by day acts as a sunscreen and by night as a dramatic electronic LED-light display. A vibrant, youthful color palette inside serves to delineate student activity zones including quiet spaces, pool tables and video game consoles, live performance areas, Jazzman’s Café, Moe’s Southwest Grill and the largest television in Oklahoma. The second floor of the new student center serves as a gathering space for alumni events–and thereby connecting ORU’s past with future generations.

The new Armand Hammer Alumni-Student Center was built by Key Construction and dedicated on February 1, 2013. To view the dedication ceremony, visit http://www.hammercenter.org/grandopening.php#.UrSESE2A0dU.
