ORU Alumni Foundation Board commits $75,000 to Quest Whole Person Scholarship
In their recent quarterly meeting, the Oral Roberts University Alumni Foundation Board of Directors voted to allocate $75,000 of unrestricted funds to ORU’s Quest Whole Person Scholarship program.
“The Alumni Foundation is continually looking for ways to support the students, who are the future alumni of ORU,” said Taci Darnell, a 1988 ORU graduate and board member. “The $75,000 contribution to the Quest Whole Person Scholarship will be matched and will have a direct impact on the students’ lives. We see investing in the students as a wise investment that will yield much fruit.”
Through a $4 million matching grant provided by friends of ORU, the $75,000 will immediately become $150,000, resulting in scholarships that will benefit those students chosen to receive the WPS for the 2013-14 academic year.
ORU’s Alumni Foundation is a nonprofit organization that seeks to serve the faculty, students, and alumni of ORU primarily by fostering a sense of connection and community through their support.
ORU announced the Quest Whole Person Scholarship program in 2008 and enrolled the first WPS students in the fall of 2009. New undergraduate freshmen and transfer students who have been accepted for enrollment at ORU, and who are nominated for the scholarship, are invited to campus for a WPS Event, where they are interviewed and asked to complete several short-answer essay questions. ORU looks for students who demonstrate a Christian worldview, a lifestyle of service, academic achievement, leadership ability, a healthy lifestyle, and a vision to make a life-changing impact on others.
All students who take part in a WPS Event receive a scholarship. Awards range from $5,000 to $20,000 per year.
Through April 30, 2013, all gifts to the Quest Whole Person Scholarship program will be matched, dollar-for-dollar.
