Oral Roberts University Awarded Military Friendly Schools Title from Victory Media Inc.

Victory Media, the premier media entity for military personnel transitioning into civilian life, has named Oral Roberts University to the coveted 2013 Military Friendly Schools ® list. This list honors only the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that exhibit leading practices in the recruitment and retention of students with military experience.

“Inclusion on the 2013 list of Military Friendly Schools ® shows ORU’s commitment to providing a supportive environment for military students,” said Sean Collins, Director for G.I. Jobs and Vice President at Victory Media.   “As interest in education grows we’re thrilled to provide the military community with transparent, world-class resources to assist in their search for schools.

Now in its fourth year, the 2013 list is compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 12,000 VA-approved schools nationwide. The survey is then independently verified by Ernst and Young LLP.

“As a community, we believe it is important to support those who have sacrificed for our freedom,” said Vice President for Academic Affairs Debbie Sowell. “Because of this belief, ORU has taken deliberate steps to ensure the success of our military students.”

ORU created an on campus organization, called ORU Veterans, to serve the needs of students with military experience. They also began participating in the Yellow Ribbon program, which allows the university to offer military scholarships to veterans. Finally, a Veterans Lounge was constructed in 2011 and is dedicated to any member of the ORU family who has served or is actively serving in any branch of the military.
