Olympic Games End for ORU Athletes
LONDON-Former ORU All-American Prince Mumba was unable to advance in the 800m preliminaries at the 2012 London Olympic Games, bringing the event to a close for former ORU athletes.
Mumba had high hopes entering the event, having won the gold medal at the Manchester Parks Grand Prix Series, but running for his native Zambia, finished seventh in his heat and 42nd overall with a time of 1:49.07.
All was not lost for Mumba, who had possibly the highlight of his career come off the track, as he was selected to carry the Zambian flag for the opening ceremonies of the 2012 Olympic Games.

Also representing ORU but competing for her native country was Dominique Allen, who was on the Great Britain women’s basketball team. Allen and her team went 0-5 in the tournament, but the impact was much greater than the record would indicate as it marked the first Olympic appearance for the Great Britain women’s basketball team.
Allen’s team was competitive throughout, despite not earning the victory, falling on a buzzer-beater in extra time against France in the fourth game.
