ORU Hosts Second Annual Couples Conference with Rutlands

For years, married couples young and old have strengthened their bond through the good humor and practical teaching of Dr. Mark and Alison Rutland, the president and first lady of Oral Roberts University. On Sept. 14 and 15, ORU is hosting its second annual Couples Conference with the Rutlands, an event designed to “engage the hearts and minds of husbands and wives.”

The conference, a repeat presentation of last year’s material, will be held in Christ’s Chapel on the ORU campus. Admission is free.

The Rutlands have shared their heart-warming and hilarious insights at Couples Conferences for years through Global Servants, a ministry they founded in 1977. Publicity materials say the conference “will have couples rolling on the floor through the dynamic Rutland stories and connecting with their spouses through practical, intimate teaching.”

Dr. Rutland said the conference is meant to encourage and inspire all couples, whether newly married or celebrating their golden anniversary.

“Alison and I have presented these conferences dozens of times,” said Dr. Rutland. “The concepts and insights never seem to get old. These are timeless truths for couples of all ages. You will definitely laugh…you may cry…and you will identify with our teachings. We will share candidly from our personal experiences. Our desire is that you will see more clearly the possibilities for growth in your relationship.”

The conference opens on Friday, Sept. 14, with a 7-to-10 p.m. session. Saturday's sessions will begin at 9 a.m. and end by 5 p.m., with a complimentary lunch provided. Refreshments will be served both days. Guests are also invited to attend ORU’s chapel service at 10:55 a.m. on Sept. 14.

Guests are responsible for their lodging, transportation, and other meals. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. Participants can register online at oru.edu/couplesconference or by calling 918-495-6610. Registration ends at midnight on Sept. 6.
