ORU prepares for semiannual Fun Run in April

By Ally Powell ('13)

Fun RunOral Roberts University’s semiannual, two-mile Fun Run will take place at 8 a.m. on April 14 in the upper parking lot on campus. The cost is $10, and participants will receive a 2012 Spring Fun Run T-shirt with registration. Proceeds from the run are used as a fundraiser for the Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) department. ORU students can sign up for the Fun Run in the Aerobics Center’s offices.

The Student Association will be passing out bananas and water bottles at the end of the race.

"With the money raised, we buy equipment for our labs used by HPER majors and equipment for general education courses," says Fritz Huber, associate professor and chair of the HPER department.

When students participate in the run, they receive extra credit in their enrolled HPER course, and their time can be used for the required field test. Students are encouraged to show up to the run 15 minutes early for a warm-up.

"The field test is a test to measure cardio respiratory fitness level and health status," says Huber. "The Fun Run also gives students a chance to experience a road race with a large crowd."

The Fun Run has been an ORU tradition for over 20 years and used to be a three-mile run on Riverside until seven years ago when it was moved on campus.
