ORU Draws Akron in Sears BracketBuster Contest
Oral Roberts has been matched up with Akron for the 2012 Sears BracketBusters game, facing the Zips on February 18 at 1 p.m. (central) from the Mabee Center. The game will be nationally televised on either ESPN or ESPN2.
The two opponents are familiar with each other, having played four times in the history of the two programs, including an 84-80 loss in Akron last season. Akron has taken all four previous meetings.
ORU is 49th in the latest NCAA RPI ratings, while Akron is 58th, posting a 14-7 overall record so far this season. The Zips are coached by Keith Dambrot and have a 6-1 record in the MAC, with their only conference loss coming at Buffalo on January 18. They are led in scoring by Zeke Marshall, who also leads them in blocks with an average of three swats per game, an average that ranks 12th in the nation. Akron opened the season with a 68-58 victory on the road at Mississippi State.
ORU has now won 13-straight games and is atop the Summit League standings. At 20-4, the Golden Eagles have reached 20 wins in the month of January for just the third time in school history, and the first as a Division I program. Coach Scott Sutton's team has also topped last year's win total (19-16). They own the nation's fifth-longest home winning streak (20) and the third-longest overall winning streak (tied at 13 with Kentucky).
