Oral Roberts University breaks ground on Alumni-Student Center on Jan. 25

By Natasha Mitchell ('94)

The 28,000-square-foot Armand Hammer Alumni-Student Center will be the first major building erected in over 27 years at Oral Roberts University. ORU will break ground on the center on Wednesday, Jan. 25, immediately after the 11 a.m. chapel service, on the south side of the construction site, near the Learning Resources Center.

ORU announced in February 2011 that the new Armand Hammer Alumni-Student Center will be a place for food, fun and fellowship for ORU students. Preliminary options include two food formats and a coffee format. The second floor of the center (which will be about 3,200 square feet) will house the ORU alumni and Career Services offices as well as a lounge for alumni. The center's lower level will contain ORU Student Association offices and workroom, more food services, game tech zone, a large main lounge, large living room area with a fireplace and seating (both inside and outside of the building).

A construction kick-off celebration will be held in February during Homecoming. Renderings of the new facility can be viewed at www.hammercenter.org.
