Pansy Wallace celebrates 35 years of service at Oral Roberts University

By Ally Powell ('13)

Pansy WallacePansy Wallace recently celebrated 35 years of service with Sodexo Food Services at Oral Roberts University. Currently, Wallace works as a front-house supervisor in the dining hall.

"I think Pansy is kind of a mom to all of us," says Alvin Tupas, ORU Sodexo general manager. "I started here over 20 years ago as a student worker, and she was my supervisor."

Tupas says that even now after 20 years, Wallace continues to mentor him.

Wallace initially worked for ORU in 1974 as a cook. At this time, there were only two or three full-time cooks and a handful of student workers that worked in the kitchen. All meals were made from scratch.

"When I first came here, I noticed that the students always introduced themselves to me, and staff members carried Bibles around," Wallace says. "I love the atmosphere at ORU."

Soon after, Wallace moved to Louisiana with her husband who served in the U.S. Air Force. In 1976, she moved back to Tulsa and began to work at ORU.

"I have always been a believer in God," Wallace says. "So, of course, I wanted to come back."

Wallace then became front-house supervisor in 1978. After having knee problems, White became the cashier in 2001.

"I had mastered my challenge as supervisor. My challenge now is knowing the students," Wallace says.

After 35 years of service, Wallace enjoys working at ORU.

"I think she is at the right job," Tupas says. "She greets the students with her loving personality. She has always been a vital asset to the company."
