ORU hosts third annual Whole Person Indoor Triathlon

Oral Roberts University will be hosting its third annual Whole Person Indoor Triathlon on Saturday Jan. 28-29, 2012, at the Kenneth H. Cooper Aerobics Center. The individual competition will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28, and the team competition will begin from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29.

The sprint triathlon is a fitness distance where participants can have success after just weeks of cardiovascular training. ORU wants to challenge you to put yourself to the test and participate in one of the fastest growing sports in the world.

The event will consist of a 400-meter swim (50 meter pool), 8-mile bike (stationary) and 2-mile run (Indoor 1/6th-mile track). Prizes will be awarded to the participants with the best time in each category. The purpose of the triathlon is to offer participants the chance to accomplish personal goals, to attain individual growth in the sport, and to socialize in an enjoyable and hospitable environment. Food and drinks will be provided for each participant during the individual competition.

The team competitions will be held on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012. Each team will consist of three participants: one swimmer, one biker and one runner. Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place for the team competition. Rankings will be posted for each team.

Individuals and teams can register for the race by going to www.signmeup.com/79259. Early Bird Special: Everyone who signs up by Dec. 31, 2011, will receive a free Whole Person Triathlon T-shirt. (Space is limited. Please register early.) Competition fee is $25/individuals, $30/teams. Registration deadline is Jan. 23.
