ORU Christmas ConcertOral Roberts University kicks off Bring Good Cheer Toy Drive

By Ally Powell ('13)

The Bring Good Cheer Toy Drive will kick off on Nov. 16 during chapel at Oral Roberts University. After the service, students will have the opportunity to pick up a gift tag providing an age and gender of a child. Donation drop-off boxes will be placed throughout the campus for donated toys.

Deadline to collect toys is Dec. 2. This year's goal is to collect 1,500 toys.

"God can use the simplest things like a toy drive to make a greater impact on the community, and bring His children together to rejoice in Jesus Christ's birth," says ORU cheerleading captain Rebecca Winstead.

ORU will also host its annual Christmas Concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Mabee Center. Admission is free and open to the public. Attendees are asked to donate one new, unwrapped toy for the Bring Good Cheer Toy Drive sponsored by the Salvation Army.

The ORU Christmas Concert will feature ORU students performing various Christmas carols. A children's open house will take place at 6:15 p.m. prior to the show that will feature holiday activities for children.

For the past three years, the Salvation Army has partnered with ORU's cheerleaders, dancers and the Student Association to sponsor the Bring Good Cheer Toy Drive. Last year, 1,432 toys were collected.
