By Natasha Mitchell ('94)

The Oral Roberts University Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team ranked in the top 12 teams in the nation of the 2011 SIFE USA National Exposition in Minneapolis, Minn., on Thursday, May 12, 2011.

Louisiana State University Business School said regarding the team via Twitter, "They did an excellent job today in a very tough league. Congratulations on having such amazing students!"

The ORU SIFE team was named second runner-up in their semifinal round, which was won by Syracuse.

SIFE teams create economic opportunities by organizing outreach projects that focus on market economics, entrepreneurship, personal financial planning, success skills, and business ethics. During this academic year, the ORU SIFE team organized 15 projects in both local and international locations. Several projects included offering online, student-written curriculum to empower contacts they had on 6 continents, and then partnering with an organization called mPOWR to send those contacts micro-loans to empower them to operate and own their own businesses; traveling to Paraguay to teach workshops on various business-related topics; further developing a student leadership conference; and working with local and global contacts to raise awareness, money, and canned goods for those in need.

The ORU SIFE team is in its fifth year and is comprised of over 200 students from 15 different majors. SIFE is an international nonprofit organization active on more than 1,500 university campuses in 40 countries.
