ORU Announces New Student Center Plans

Oral Roberts University President Mark Rutland has announced a plan to build the Armand Hammer Alumni-Student Center. This anticipated announcement came during a Homecoming chapel service on Feb. 4. Construction on the new building will begin in the spring semester of 2012.

"For almost a decade, the ORU community has dreamt of this new student center. I am thrilled that dream is in hand," said Rutland. "This new facility is a monumental step in the continued revival of the university. This is a reminder of our legacy instilled by Chancellor Oral Roberts to 'expect a miracle.'"

The Alumni-Student Center has received seed gifts of $8 million from the Armand Hammer Foundation and the Cardone Family Foundation to ensure the completion of the project. The building is slated to be erected in the empty field just east of the Prayer Tower.

The new building is named to honor the original key gift to ORU for the building from the Armand Hammer Foundation.

"The university community is grateful to the Hammer and Cardone families for making this project a reality. With those families leading the way this building will now, at last, be built," said Rutland.

Michael and Jacquie Cardone of Philadelphia, Pa., are the co-chairs of the Hammer Alumni-Student Center project. Alumni of ORU (Michael-1970, Jacquie-1969), they were honored by the ORU Alumni Association with the "Alumnus of the Year" award in 1999 for Distinguished Service to the Community. Jacquie Cardone is a member of the ORU Board of Trustees.

"This is exactly what the alumni have been waiting on. Now it's here. We are going to build this building. With the alumni's help, we will build a first-class building that we can be proud of," said Michael Cardone. "This beautiful building will be an enduring blessing to the campus and students of ORU. It will be the alumni's legacy."

"This is a great moment of celebration in the history of ORU," said Rutland.
