ORU Hosts Midwest Harp Festival

For the 11th consecutive year, Oral Roberts University is hosting the Midwest Harp Festival from July 19-24. The festival is made up of weeklong training, three concerts and a competition. A free concert will be held Saturday June 24 at 11 a.m. in Timko Barton Music Hall on the ORU campus for the community to attend.

The Midwest Harp Festival introduced a new program this year for college and career bound harpists. The new program has had a positive effect on the solo competition and the concerts.

"The greatest pleasure I get from directing this festival is to see the satisfaction for both the harpists and community that attends the concerts," said festival director, Lorelei Barton. "I enjoy observing the growth and maturity of students who participate each year. This confirms that we are doing our job."

This year 46 harpists are here to participate in the festival ranging from all age groups and levels. Students have come from across the United States as well as two students from Korea to participate in the event.
