Gilman Scholarship Awarded to ORU Senior
Oral Roberts University's senior David Belousov received the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship for fall of 2010. The scholarship gives Belousov the opportunity to study in the Chinese Business Program at the Ocean University of China in Qingdao, China.
The Gilman International Scholarship is offered to U.S. citizen, undergraduate students looking to study abroad. Students interested in the scholarship must have an authorized Gilman Scholarship Program academic sponsor recommend them for the Gilman scholarship. The authorized academic sponsors at ORU are Dr. Robert Skinner, Associate Professor of French and Chair of English and Modern Languages and Dr. Kay Meyers, Professor of English and Assistant Director of the Honors Program.
After the term of studying, all recipients are required to create a project that promotes international education through the Gilman Scholarship Program in their community. Part of the project is a statement of purpose essay including the applicant's academic progress and criteria that are closely considered during the selection process.
This is not Belousov's first time to study abroad. In 2009, Belousov went to Costa Rica and Guatemala to study Spanish.
"Since then, I have desired to learn, travel, and impact the world as much as I can," said Belousov. He also had the opportunity to travel with the ORU College of Business to do mission work Argentina last March. In Argentina, Belousov was able to minister and teach business seminars. Currently, Belousov is traveling across Europe studying cultures of various countries.
