TULSA—Oral Roberts University baseball standouts Carlos Luna (Bakersfield, Calif.) and Brian Van Kirk (Southwest Ranches, Fla.) racked up their second and third All-America honors, respectively, when the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association named both players to its 2008 All-America teams, it was announced on Thursday.

Van Kirk, a senior outfielder, makes his third All-American team (Collegiate Baseball, Ping! Baseball) as a third-team selection by the NCBWA. He enjoyed one of the top offensive seasons in school history, finishing the year batting .414 with 18 home runs and 74 RBI. Van Kirk led the Summit League in all three categories.

The 2008 Summit League Player of the Year and Tournament MVP also recorded 98 hits, 22 doubles, a .734 slugging percentage and a .505 on-base percentage. He ranked in the ORU single-season Top 10 in eight different categories, including batting average, hits, home runs, RBI, doubles and total bases.

Van Kirk was one of eight Golden Eagles selected in last week's Major League Baseball draft, going to the Toronto Blue Jays in the 21st round.

Luna, a senior right-handed pitcher, joined Van Kirk on the third team on the strength of a 13-1 record and 3.35 ERA. The 2008 Summit League Pitcher of the Year, Luna is tied for the national lead in wins with only the College World Series remaining in the 2008 season.

Luna appeared in 31 games, making seven starts. In 99.1 innings he struck out 99 batters and recorded two saves.

In May, Luna was named third-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball. He was a 30th-round draft pick of the Colorado Rockies last week.
