ORU SIFE Team Wins Regional Award

The Oral Roberts University Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) team was chosen to continue on to the national competition after participating in the Rogers, Arkansas SIFE USA Regional Competition on March 27. The event was one of 16 SIFE USA Regional Competitions being held across the United States in March and April. The National Competition is in Chicago May 13-15.

SIFE teams create economic opportunities by organizing outreach projects that focus on - market economics, entrepreneurship, personal financial planning, success skills, and business ethics. During this academic year, the ORU SIFE team organized six projects in the Tulsa community and around the world. The team prepared an annual report of their projects and presented their work to 21 judges at the competition. The judges consisted of executives and managers from Fortune 500 companies.

These projects included working with Dominion Farms, Ltd. to develop the agricultural sector in sub-Saharan Africa, traveling to Argentina to teach workshops on various business-related topics, teaching students about the stock market through a virtual stock exchange game, developing a leadership conference, teaching basic financial literacy to students at an alternative school, and partnering with Eagle Sky Foundation to develop a state-of-the-art youth camp in Kenya.

The ORU SIFE team is in its second year and is comprised of 52 students from 12 different majors. SIFE is an international nonprofit organization active on more than 1,400 university campuses in 48 countries.
