ORU Students Score in Math Competition
|
David Kobilnyk, junior engineering major, scored eight points, Jason Vermette, senior math major, scored three points, and David Bulger, freshman biology major, scored one point.
"These scores are significant because of the 16 million college students in the U.S. and Canada only 3,753 were selected to take the Putnam Exam. This puts these three students in the top 0.01% of all students in North America - quantitatively. To score on the Putnam exam is an achievement in and of itself," said Dr. Andrew Lang, mathematics professor.
The six-hour test took place in December 2007 and 3,753 contestants from 516 institutions took part. The test is open to regularly enrolled undergraduate students from colleges and universities in the United States and Canada who have not completed a college degree. Entrants may only take the test a total of four times.
