ORU Enjoys Repeat Success at Oklahoma Intercollegiate Legislature

Oral Roberts University students won Overall Best Delegation, Best House Delegation, and Best Senate Delegation among other awards at the 2008 spring session of the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Legislature (OIL). This is the second semester in a row that ORU students have won these top honors.

OIL hosts a five-day mock legislative session in the Oklahoma State Capitol once a semester consisting of delegations from over 20 universities across the state. It includes a moot court competition and model executive branch. ORU's delegation competed against other schools such as the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, the University of Central Oklahoma and the University of Tulsa. The ORU delegation also won the following awards at the 2008 spring session:

  • Best House Delegate: Colten Barnaby
  • Best House Delegate 2nd Runner Up: Jessica Combs
  • Best House Freshman: Josh Owings
  • Best Senate Delegate 2nd Runner Up: Jessica Craig
  • Court 1st Place: Michael Lind
  • Court 3rd Place: Josh Owings
  • Journalism Competition 1st Place: Derek Balderson
  • Winner of the Canned Food Drive
