ORU Announces Commencement Speaker and Honorary Doctorate Recipient
|
After beginning his college career at ORU, Wright left school early (1977) to serve in the U.S. Army. Post-military, he became a co-anchor for WVBT-TV in Norfolk, Virginia and then moved on to both anchor and report for WRAL-TV in Raleigh, North Carolina. After his time at WRAL-TV, Wright was a general assignment reporter for WWOR-TV in New York, where he reported on a variety of high-profile criminal cases. In January 2003, his longtime dream of anchoring, hosting, and reporting for a major network came true when he was asked to come on staff at FNC.
Wright now serves as the co-anchor of "American Election Headquarters," along with performing duties as a general assignment correspondent for FNC. Wright will also be graduating with his degree in broadcast journalism at this commencement.
Alumnus Jim Stovall will be receiving an honorary doctorate.
Stovall, as president of Narrative Television Network (NTN), makes movies and television accessible for blind and visually impaired people and their families. Stovall has received the Entrepreneur of the Year award from The President's Committee on Equal Opportunity. He has also received such honors as International Humanitarian of the Year, and been named one of the Ten Outstanding Young Americans by the U. S. Junior Chamber of Commerce. NTN has won an Emmy and an International Film and Video Award.
Stovall is also a highly sought after author and platform speaker and has been a national champion Olympic weightlifter. He authored the best-selling book, The Ultimate Gift, which is now a major motion picture.
