ORU's Bain Wins National Championship in 400-Meter Race

Senior Andretti Bain made ORU history by winning a national championship in the 400-meter race at the 2008 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships March 15.

With the win, Bain becomes the first-ever NCAA champion at Oral Roberts.

The Nassau, Bahamas native ran 46.19 for the win after setting a school record in the preliminary race Friday afternoon. Bain placed first in the prelim after running 46.02 to move on to today's final.

Arizona State's Joel Phillips placed second to Bain, running 46.27.

Senior Shaun Smith competed in the men's 800-meter run after qualifying in the preliminaries yesterday. Bain finished sixth in the finals in a time of 1:50.33.

Overall, the Golden Eagles finished the meet in the top 20 at No. 15 with 13 points. Both Bain and Smith earn All-America accolades for their finishes.
