"I can find everything I need for graduation," stated senior Kevin Dunn, who will soon receive his B.A. in music.
The Graduation Fair is an annual event dedicated to congratulating and celebrating the current graduating class. The goal is to provide candidates with a "one-stop shop" where they can take care of their graduation-related needs, as well as become exposed to services offered specifically for graduates.
"We think the fair is very beneficial to all graduates. It gives them the opportunity to get everything related to graduation taken care of in one day, and they can also see if anything else needs to be done," explained Winnie Perdue, Coordinator of Programs and Events in the Alumni Office.
Various ORU departments showcased at the grad fair included Financial Aid, Student Accounts, Student Loans, Alumni Recruiting Association, Registrar, Alumni Relations, Graduate Programs, and College and Career Guidance. In addition, external vendors participating included Jostens, Herff Jones, Nelnet, Sallie Mae, Collegiate Funding Services, and Oklahoma Student Loan Association.
Donna Bratschun, administrative assistant in the College and Career Guidance Center, encouraged students at the fair to get entered in the ORU database which allows students and employers to find one another. Students can post their resumes and search for current job openings nationwide, while prospective employers can find qualified student candidates. Over 300 colleges and universities in the U.S. use this effective database.
"We need to help seniors utilize the resources available to them so we can continue to take care of them when they graduate," said Bratschun.
The Registrar's office provided handouts with a listing of the various graduation-related activities and deadlines. This information is also available on the ORU website: http://www.oru.edu/university/departments/graduation.
The date and time for this year's Commencement rehearsal is Friday, May 5 at 12:00 noon. The Commencement ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 6 at 1:00 p.m. Both events will take place in the Mabee Center.
